The planned Preston IKEA location has been revealed as Deepdale Trade Park.
The Swedish flat-pack giant announced in October that one of its new Plan and Order Points (POP) would be opening in the city.
Now, a planning application submitted to Preston City Council shows the store would be situated in Unit M1, which was occupied by Toolstation until 2019.
The scaled-down store off Blackpool Road would mainly be used for click and collect, with a small part of the 520 sq m unit being given over to kitchen and bedroom planning services.
The application explains: “A POP is a new trading concept for IKEA, with Preston being one of the first locations to pilot this operation.
“The new format is to cater to customers that are looking for a specific, targeted service for planning and buying fitted kitchen and bedroom furniture.
“As such, POPs are required to be conveniently located to where customers live, work and commute, and given they involve the display and sale of bulky products, require a showroom which is centrally located to a wide customer base.”

If the store gets approval, customers will be able to either book an appointment online, or walk in without a reservation.
The application continues: “The POP will provide areas to sit down with a sales representative, along with areas to display samples of materials, colours, finishes etc. of the kitchens and wardrobes/drawers etc.
“When a customer has designed their kitchen and/or bedroom, the customer would pay for the fitted kitchen/bedroom chosen, which would then be delivered to their home address.”
The proposal stresses that the click and collect facility will help IKEA reach a wider customer base without the environmental impact of long journeys to the current closest stores at Warrington or Manchester.
The application shows the store is expected to create five full-time jobs. It would be open from 10am to 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
