A new eco-focused mural is to be created in a Preston park during the city’s annual Egg Rolling event.

City artist and Preston mural maestro Shawn Sharpe is getting his brushes out to create a new mural during the course of Bank Holiday Monday.

Shawn, who is behind a number of eye-catching murals across the city centre including Mother on the side of Hogarths and Diamond Days by the Bus Station, has been commissioned to paint #EveryCanCounts.

Made up of 700 recycled cans the installation is a partnership between Preston City Council and Every Can Counts to mark Earth Day on Tuesday 22 April.

Shawn Sharpe told Blog Preston: “I’m really pleased to be part of a local tradition on Avenham that’s been going strong for years. It’s great to be working closely with Preston City Council on this.

“This will actually be my first live painting event in Preston. Over the past few years, I’ve seen various events happening here, but they often bring in artists from other cities across the UK. Supporting local culture is always my priority, so it’s great to see the council doing the same.

“On top of that, this live painting is for a great cause—working with Every Can Counts to highlight the importance of recycling drink cans. It’s going to be an interesting surface to paint on, but I do love a challenge.”

Once Shawn has painted it, during the Bank Holiday Monday, it will be displayed in Avenham Park until Tuesday evening.

It will then be put on display at Lancashire County Council’s new Eco Town attraction within Farington Waste Recovery Park.

Anyone attending the Egg Rolling in Avenham Park on Bank Holiday Monday (21 April) is welcome to watch Shawn at work between 11am to 4pm as he paints the cans.
