Interactive education walkway experience Eco Town in Leyland officially opens

The new interactive education walkway experience in Farington Waste Recovery Park, Leyland was officially launched this week.

Bookings are now open for Eco Town, an immersive learning journey, similar to a science discovery centre and showcases what happens to waste, with a focus on recycling.

The new attraction, which opened on 20 February offers engaging exhibits and hands-on activities.

Lancashire County Council Leader Phillippa Williamson, Cllr Shaun Turner, cabinet member for Environment and Climate Change and Vice Chairman Alf Clempson attended the official launch alongside staff and VIP guests.

County councillor Williamson said: “We’re hoping that schools, community groups and members of the public will come along to find out more about reducing waste, reusing items and moving away from a throwaway culture.

“We hope that they will be able to leave here able to make better and more sustainable environmental choices.”

Earlier this month nine children from Royal Cross Primary School for Deaf Children in Ashton-on-Ribble found out what happens to their recycling during a special visit ahead of the official opening.

Lisa Dewhurst, a teacher at the school said: “We will definitely be promoting the Walkway experience to other schools. It is very accessible and something that all children can enjoy learning about.”
