There is significant traffic heading out of Grimsargh and Longridge this morning (17 January) with a key road still closed.

Haighton Green Lane has been closed since yesterday (16 January) with signage erected overnight at Grimsargh to indicate that. Update has now been given on how long the closure lasts.

The reason for the closure on Haighton Green Lane has not yet been made clear, although United Utilities confirmed to Blog Preston it was not due to work they were doing.

Traffic on Preston Road and Longridge Road between Longridge and junction 31A for the M6 is reportedly at a standstill as drivers seek to avoid Haighton Green Lane.

There is also significant traffic on Whittingham Lane, where roadworks are in place, as people look further afield for a diversion.

One reader told Blog Preston: “This is the worst I’ve seen it. It goes all the way back to Longridge in a solid line. The road is gridlocked.”

Another said: “You need a helicopter to get out of Grimsargh this morning.”

The number 1 and 45/46 bus services are also disrupted due to the traffic.

Matt Townsend, director of Highways and Transport at Lancashire County council, told Blog Preston: “There is a closure on this road between 16 and 22 of January. This is due to urgent work being undertaken by Electricity North West.

“We are looking into temporary traffic management measures whilst the emergency utility work is ongoing.”
