Thunderstorm yellow weather warning issued for Preston by Met Office

Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to disruption to travel in Preston today, according to a warning from the Met Office.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place from 11am until 9pm today (18 June) with the Met Office warning of driving conditions being affected by standing water, possible damage to buildings, delays to public transport and some flooding.

A yellow weather warning is the lowest level of warning available to the Met Office.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Showers developing later on Tuesday morning, becoming heavy with some thunderstorms through the afternoon and early evening.

“Some of these will be slow-moving with lightning, hail and also heavy rain and a few places seeing 20-30 mm of rain in one hour.”
