A iconic Preston city centre pub has been given a facelift.

The Dog and Partridge in Friargate has seen its brewery Star Pubs make an investment in its frontage.

Landlady Gillian Walsh said the repainting had taken place as they prepare for the Friargate revamp being completely finished.

She told Blog Preston: “It’s been awful while the roadworks have been taking place and we’ve lost a lot of takings.

“However, it’s getting there and now everything is back to normal then I’m hoping to see a lot of our regulars coming back.”

The pub has applied – along with a number of other Friargate premises – to have a pavement licence for outdoor tables and chairs to the front of the pub.

Gillian, who took on the pub in mid-2020, said: “It will be great when we’re all able to have those tables and chairs out, get a nice sunny day and Friargate will be a great place to be.

“We applied a while back now so hopefully it won’t be too much longer.”

A council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that the Council has received several requests to place tables and chairs on the highway. These requests have been received just as legislation has changed. We are working through the new process and have progressed some applications.

“The Dog and Partridge will be contacted next week along with a number of other applicants.”

Gillian said speculation the beer prices had increased due to the repainting of the pub was unfounded.

The pub is also home to six shiatzu pub dogs in Charlie, Jessie, Luna, Coco, Alfie and Dexter.

The Dog and Partridge is open from 12noon each day and has a 2am licence on a Friday and Saturday.
