An arson investigation has been launched after the former Baffito’s restaurant at Preston Docks caught fire again yesterday (Thursday 29 April).

Firefighters previously tackled a blaze there in December.

Ian Armistead, Protection Transformation Team Station Manager for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said on Twitter: “Early decisive firefighting tactics quickly prevented the fire from spreading further.

“Fire is being treated as suspicious and a joint investigation with Preston Police ongoing.”

Four fire crews from Preston, Bamber Bridge and Fulwood tackled the fire on the ground floor of the property, which is set to become a care home.

Crews used breathing apparatus, two hose reels and an aerial ladder platform to bring the blaze under control.

Tom Powell, Acting Group Manager, Service Training Manager, for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, tweeted: “Sadly not our first incident at this address. Arson endangers lives and ties up vital Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service resources.”
