Broughton Bypass closed due to flooding as Storm Christoph continues and flood warnings in place

This morning (Wednesday, 20 January) flood warnings were upgraded on River Ribble at Walton-le-Dale and Samlesbury as Storm Christoph continues.

The River Ribble has been running high as a result of the heavy rain.

‘Immediate action is required’ at two of the locations on the river:

  • River Ribble at Samlesbury around Brockholes Reserve and Lower Brockholes Quarry
  • River Ribble at Walton-le-Dale, area from Fishwick Bottoms to Railway Bridge

Preston Police have warned of flooding at James Towers Way (Broughton Bypass, A6) at Broughton, southbound towards the M6.

They are asking people to avoid the area.

The heavy rainfall has caused many areas across Preston to experience flooding.

River levels are expected to be high until tomorrow (21 January).
