Storm Callum strikes Preston – hour by hour weather forecast

Strong gales, downpours and potential flooding are expected as Storm Callum strikes the city.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the region with up to 48 hours of torrential rain forecast for Preston on Friday (12 October).

Travel routes could be affected and Prestonians are being asked to prepare as the wacky weather approaches.

Here’s an hour-by-hour forecast for the city this weekend:

Friday (12 October)

9am – Light rain begins and wind speeds pick up to 18 mph

10am – Rain eases for now but still very overcast

11am – Cloudy and temperature is at 16 degrees. Wind speed is slowly increasing at 20 mph

12noon – Grab your umbrellas as the heavens open

1pm – The rain eases off again

2pm – Take caution as wind speed shoots up to a very strong 25 mph with light showers

3pm – Winds are at the strongest for the day now at 26 mph with gusts of 50 mph

4pm – Heavy rain from 4pm. Temperatures reach 18 degrees.

5pm – Showers slacken to light rain and the winds decrease slightly to 23 mph

6pm – Heavy rain returns setting the pattern for the rest of the evening

7pm – Winds drop dramatically to 12 mph

8pm – Humidity is at 91% as the rain continues

9pm – Torrential downpours are still expected

10pm – Temperatures are at 15 degrees

11pm – Expect heavy rain into the night. Wind speed is at 8 mph

12 midnight – Downpours continue

Saturday (13 October)

1am – 15 degrees and breezy from the south

2am – Winds are at 7 mph accompanied by torrential rain

3am – 90% chance of rain

4am – Winds slacken to 5 mph, the lowest of the day ahead

5am – Downpours continue and winds slowly start to pick up again

6am – Early risers will awaken to grey skies and continuous showers

7am – Set to be a windy weekend with wind speed picking up to 9 mph

8am – Temperatures at 15 degrees

9am – Winds are now at 12 mph in a south-eastward direction

10am – 90% chance of rain and winds pick right up to 16 mph

11am – Torrential rain and temperatures increasing to 17 degrees

12noon – Light rain for the moment. Winds increase to 20 mph

1pm – 19 degrees and winds continue to pick up

2pm – Winds are the strongest of the day at 21 mph

3pm – The rain stops but make the most of it as this is only briefly

4pm – Light showers return setting the path for the rest of the day

5pm – 50% chance of rain

6pm – Torrential downpours again

7pm – Winds drop to 16 mph

8pm – Heavy rain and temperatures at 15 degrees

9pm – Downpours continue and winds drop to 14 mph

10pm – Rain eases to light showers

11pm – Light shower night and winds are at 13 mph

12 midnight – At last, the rain stops

Sunday (14 October)

1am – Cloudy and temperatures are at 14 degrees

4am – The rain starts with light showers expected

7am – Heavy rain to start the day

10am – The rain stops. Expect some breeze with wind speed at 13 mph

1pm – The sun starts to make an appearance for the first time this weekend. Sunny intervals for the afternoon

4pm – Not a grey cloud around and the sun is shining down on Preston

7pm – A clear night ahead, and winds drop to 7 mph

10pm – Some clouds in the sky but a dry evening to end a very rainy weekend
