Three months of overnight closures of the M55 and M6 at Preston are imminent.

National Highways confirmed the works were primarily on its Ash dieback works.

This removes dead or dying trees and puts in new species of trees.

Various slip-road and junction closures will be in place between Junction 3 of the M55 and Junction 1 of the M55 where it meets the M6.

As well as on Junction 31A and Junction 32 of the M6.

National Highways said the works would always be overnight or on the hard shoulder so as not to cause disruption or closure of the motorway during peak times.

Works are listed as taking place from 8pm to 6am.

A National Highways spokesperson told Blog Preston: “A programme of routine maintenance work is scheduled for the coming months around the M55 and M6 near Preston.

“This includes horticultural management, drainage clearance, sign technology maintenance and various other works. To minimise disruption these will take place overnight.

“Some require full carriageway and slip road closures for the safety of our workforce and traveling public. Full diversions will be in place, and we work closely with our partners, including Lancashire County Council to ensure motorists are not further impacted by roadworks not on our network.”

The works are due to take place until the end of March.

Closures planned for this week include:
Sunday 12 January – M55 westbound junction 1 exit slip road closure, 8pm-5am and a lane will also be close from M6 northbound at Junction 1 to the M55 junction.
Monday 13 January – M55 westbound junction 1 exit slip road closure – 8pm-6am and a lane will be closed from Junction 32 to M55
Tuesday 14 January – M55 junction 3 eastbound entry slip road closure, 8pm-6am, with the M55 eastbound from Junction 4 two lane closures
Wednesday 15 January – M55 junction 3 eastbound entry slip road closure, 8pm-6am, with the M55 eastbound from Junction 4 two lane closures
Thursday 16 January – M55 junction 1 entry slip road closure, 8pm-6am, with the M55 eastbound from Junction 2 two lane closure
