Icy stretches of road and further snow showers overnight are likely to disrupt travel, according to the latest warning from the Met Office.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place for Preston, and the wider North West area, from 5pm today (6 January) until 10am tomorrow (7 January).
It warns that journeys, either by untreated road or public transport, could be delayed due to the ice.

While snow is part of the warning, the impact is unlikely to be similar to what Preston saw over the weekend.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Icy stretches are expected to develop this evening, due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt. Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of northwest England this evening, moving into southwest England, the Midlands and parts of southern England in the early hours of Tuesday.
“In addition to the ice, these are likely to produce snow accumulations of a few cm above 200 metres, with a small chance of greater than 5 cm above 200 metres in Wales. The heaviest snow showers may also produce temporary accumulations of 0-2 cm at low levels.”
Lancashire County Council gave an update about their gritting operation.
Cabinet member for Highways and Transport, county councillor Rupert Swarbrick, said: “Our teams have been working around the clock to make Lancashire’s roads safe for everyone.
“While we’re doing everything we can, it simply isn’t possible to treat every one of the 4000+ miles of road we maintain as a council.
“Our focus has instead been on keeping our priority routes open and moving, and once they are done, we can move onto our secondary routes.
“Despite our best efforts, conditions may still be difficult so don’t travel unless necessary and consider your travel plans over the coming days.
“As the ice thaws out, it’s possible that some areas may see localised flooding and if that happens, we will be ready to respond as we have done throughout the New Year period.
“Stay vigilant and if you are faced with an emergency then contact the emergency services.
“Lastly, I’d like to give a huge thanks to our highways teams and our partners for their efforts in responding to the extreme weather over the Christmas and New Year period.”
