A busy Preston junction on the edge of the city centre and university campus is set for two months of disruption.
Lancashire County Council is upgrading traffic signals at the junction of North Road and Moor Lane.
Work begins on Monday (6 January) to replace and upgrade the traffic signals which the county council says are ‘coming to the end of their life and becoming increasingly difficult to maintain’.

As a result of the works then there’s no access to Moor Lane from North Road (the A6).
Diversions, temporary traffic lights and lane closures are expected throughout the works at the junction.
Moorbrook Street is also being closed at the junction with Moor Lane and is being made two-way to allow access to and from the University of Central Lancashire car parks.
Cabinet member for highways and transport county councillor Rupert Swarbrick said: “The work will involve installing new ducting within the road for the cables, which will allow future maintenance to be carried out with reduced disruption to traffic
“By carefully planning these projects and carrying them out before the situation becomes critical, such as hardware or cable failure, we hope to reduce disruption for years or decades to come.
“We’re also going to bring the existing controlled pedestrian facilities at these locations up to modern standard and make them more accessible for blind and partially sighted users.”
It’s the second set of traffic light upgrades along North Road with work already taking place during Autumn on the crossroads with Sedgewick Street and Melling Street.
