A number of roads around Deepdale and Fishwick will be shut during Sunday afternoon for a religious procession.

The Prophet Muhammed procession takes place between 3pm and 6pm on Sunday (22 September).

Preston City Council has released details of the route and roads which will be closed.

Only vehicles forming part of the procession or emergency service vehicles can travel along the roads during the procession.

Previous processions – which mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed – have attracted around 1,000 people to take part and takes place annually organised by the city’s Muslim community.

The procession route goes between Masjid-e-Noor in Noor Street, Deepdale, and Masjid-e-Aqsa in Fishwick Parade – starting in Fishwick.

The parade had previously been listed – under the city council’s public notice – as starting at 1.30pm.

This was adjusted on Saturday evening when Lancashire Police got involved, following queries from many Preston North End fans, pointing out the PNE v Blackburn Rovers game at Deepdale Stadium which kicks off at 12noon would be finishing as the parade and road closures were in full swing.
