Britain’s oldest working standard gauge steam locomotive will be at the Gala Pic: Ribble Steam Railway and Museum

This year’s Autumn Steam Gala at the Ribble Steam Railway and Museum is shaping up to be the biggest and best ever.

Held at the popular attraction in Chain Caul Road, five steam locomotives will be operating the trains over the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29th September – with two of them newly restored.

Also in steam will be Britain’s oldest working standard gauge steam locomotive Furness Railway No. 20, which was built in Manchester in 1863.

Visitors can take a trip behind the locomotives, each with its own fascinating story representing the heyday of industrial steam in the heart of Preston’s docklands.

For an extra touch of elegance, visitors can enjoy one of Alison’s special teas onboard the Great Eastern Railway Royal Saloon No. 5, which was built for Princess Alexandra over 100 years ago.

A spokesperson for Ribble Steam Railway and Museum said: “With demonstration goods trains, railway workshops, a children’s play area and an award-winning museum and cafe there’s something for all the family.”
