The Preston company behind The Renata Road is ‘thrilled’ the film is now streaming in the UK.

The British independent thriller was shot in and around the city in June 2014, and had its world premiere six years later in Los Angeles as part the Believe Psychology Film Festival.

The film stars C.J. de Mooi – best known for his almost 200 appearances on BBC quiz show Eggheads – as an anonymous man who arrives at the nightmarish Renata Hotel, with no memory of his identity or purpose.

Plagued by insomnia, he walks the deserted corridors and common rooms, under constant surveillance from the rules-obsessed manager. Pulled into guests’ lives, the illusion of calm shatters, leading to a chilling encounter with the maid, unravelling a chain of events pushing sanity to the brink, risking all present.

The film was made by independent development and production company The Cannon Film Company, which is based at UCLan’s Media Factory.

The titular hotel is a mix of two real locations – The Chadwick Hotel and The Inn on the Prom in Lytham – while certain interiors were constructed and shot on a soundstage in Bowran Street off Marsh Lane.

Asked how it feels to have the film available in the UK, Managing Director Richard Albiston told Blog Preston: “The Cannon Film Company is thrilled to have The Renata Road streaming for UK audiences.

“It has been a long journey, but it’s immensely satisfying to see the film being embraced by audiences in its home country.

“It’s always great to see audiences engage with indie cinema, especially on films as unique as The Renata Road is.”

Richard says the film will appeal to fans of mystery.

“Director Ed Greenberg and writers Alan Mockler, Greg Saxton and Chris Worthington have created what is really a one-of-a-kind mystery thriller where literally nothing is at it seems,” said Richard.

“It’s a film to get involved with and see if you can pick on the subtle hints and clues before the picture reaches its shocking climax.

“So if you enjoy a mystery film, or films by David Lynch, The Renata Road should be on your watchlist.”

The Renata Road is streaming on Amazon Prime Video in the UK. It is free to stream for Prime Members, with rental and purchase options also available.
