A gym in Fulwood has raised over £4,000 for charity by taking on a ‘big fitness challenge’ in memory of one of its beloved members.

The event at Everybody Fit gym (EBF) based in Lytham Road was hosted on Saturday (31 August) to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice which looked after Daisy-Mae.

Daisy-Mae was a cherished member of the gym who lost her battle with cancer in February last year after being cared for by the hospice.

The challenge day was said to be a ‘beautiful tribute’ to Daisy-Mae’s legacy, with the whole community coming together for a good cause.

The money raised will go towards care and support for patients and families across Preston during their most challenging times.

Cheryl Hughes, who owns the gym and arranged the event said: “The atmosphere in the gym during the charity event was nothing short of magical. The energy, the laughter, and the incredible sense of community were unforgettable. It felt like every cheer and every smile brought us closer together.

“We wish we could bottle that feeling and keep it forever—it was a day that truly showed the heart of our community.  Daisy-Mae would have been so proud of what we achieved as a gym and as a community.”

The big charity challenge started at 6am, it took those taking apart seven hours and 15 minutes to cover 1,281,162 metres across 11 pieces of cardio equipment.

During the last hour, they had ‘one big push’ to get over the finish line, taking the challenge total past the original goal of 1,210,652 metres. The 210,652 represents Daisy-Mae’s date of birth.

Cheryl added: “Charity work is deeply important to me because it’s all about making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

“It’s not just about raising money; it’s about showing up for people, spreading kindness, and creating a sense of hope. Knowing that we can come together to support others is what drives me—and every bit of effort goes a long way in changing lives.”

You can still donate via the gym’s JustGiving page here.
