The M61 southbound is closed which is causing delays of more than an hour on the M6.
Update: A lane has now re-opened on the M61 southbound
The motorway is closed between the M6 junction near Bamber Bridge and J9 M65 due to a collision which took place around 8.30am on Tuesday (19 December).
Long delays are currently in place of at least 75 minutes on the M6 south between J32 (Broughton) and J30 (Tickled Trout/Samlesbury).
Police have confirmed it is a “damage only” collision – and work is ongoing to clear the fuel spillage on the carriageway. The closure remained in force on the M61 as of 11.20am on Tuesday and indications from the Highways Agency are the closure will be in place until around 3pm on Tuesday.
There are delays on many routes in Preston as traffic tries to find alternative routes, and Preston Bus is reporting heavier traffic than usual on a number of routes.
Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs.
