New Year will be brought in in typically damp fashion in Preston, according to a warning issued by the Met Office.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain for Preston and much of Lancashire running from 6pm today (December 31) to 6am tomorrow (January 1).
The warning states that frequent heavy showers may lead to some flooding and disruption to travel. There is a possibility of flooding to some homes and businesses and disruption to travel due to delays caused by spray on the roads. There is also a higher than usual chance that journeys by public transport could be delayed.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Frequent heavy showers merging into some longer spells of rain through Sunday evening and overnight. 10-20 mm of rain falling and possibly 30-40 mm in a few places over a 12 hour period.”
BBC Weather is currently forecasting rain from 1pm today until 3am tomorrow morning.
It is the latest in a series of weather warnings issued by the Met Office over a Christmas period that has brought a high volume of rain to the North West. Earlier this week, the Met Office confirmed that a ‘supercell’ thunderstorm and a tornado was the likely cause of particularly strong winds and extended periods of thunder noticed by people in Preston.
