River Ribble flood warnings issued covering Ribchester, Samlesbury and Walton-le-Dale

Three flood warnings have been issued for sections of the River Ribble between Ribchester and Preston.

Environment Agency has warnings in force for flood warning – its second-highest level – following heavy and persistent rainfall during Thursday night and Friday (6 October) morning.

The flood warnings, which were triggered around 10am on Friday, cover:

  • River Ribble at Ribchester and the area surounding Blackburn Road covering: Higher Croft, Harwood House, Yew Tree Cottage, Beech House, Thorncroft, properties near Ease Barn Farm on Gallows Lane, and 19 to 22 Blackburn Road.
  • River Ribble at Samlesbury around Brockholes Reserve and Lower Brockholes Quarry
  • River Ribble at Walton-le-Dale area from Fishwick Bottoms to railway bridge covering: Properties on the South bank of the Ribble between the Darwen Confluence and the Railway Bridge and on the North bank upstream of Walton Bridge.

A flood alert – the lowest level of warning – covers much of the River Ribble at Preston and all the surrounding brooks.

A number of roads in and around Preston are experiencing surface water flooding due to the heavy rainfall.
