Fylde Road Mill site due to become two apartment blocks

A former mill site close to Preston’s university campus looks set to become new apartments.

What was Fylde Road Mill would see two blocks of ten to 12 storeys in height built with 132 apartments in total.

S Vali has tabled proposals via De Pol Associates to demolish an existing three-storey building in Fylde Road.

The site is close to the West Coast main line and is described as an ‘irregular’ shape of land between Ashton-on-Ribble and the university campus.

It is also close to St Walburge’s Church which is in Pedder Street but it on the other side of the railway line from the development site.

As well as the apartments across the two blocks there would be a roof top terrace, gardens, car parking and a ground floor retail unit facing into Fylde Road.

A statement from De Pol Associates said: “Ultimately the application proposal provides a number of significant benefits making efficient and effective use of an otherwise vacant brownfield site within the urban area of Preston.

“It will deliver housing in line with the government objective to boost significantly the supply of housing and create jobs in the construction sector during the development phase as well as further benefit to business as new residents fit out and decorate new homes.”
