Work on the Preston Western Distributor has moved into the final stages.

Lancashire County Council and main contractor Costain are delivering the PWDR scheme, including building a new M55 motorway junction for National Highways.

A series of road closures have been in place in recent weeks as work focussed on the ā€˜missingā€™ junction 2.

The road, which will link parts of Preston and the Fylde to the M55, will be known as Edith Rigby Way in honour of Prestonā€™s mostĀ famous suffragette.

It’s said that the road will help to create more than 20,000 new private sector jobs.

More than 17,000 new homes are set to be built across the area, along with new school places and open green spaces to cater for the growing population.

An opening date for the road is expected to be announced soon.
