Full list of Coronation Bank Holiday weekend Preston street parties and road closures

Preston City Council has released the full list of road closures ahead of the street parties taking place in celebration of the Coronation Big Lunch 2023.

The commencement time and duration of these closures between Saturday 6 May and Monday 8 May, will vary and only emergency service vehicles will be allowed access during the closure periods.

Below is a list of the 16 road closures spanning between three days and the different diversion routes available.

Saturday 6 May road closures:

  • Ivy Bank, Fulwood – fully closed from 1pm to 9pm.
  • Holly Bank Close – from a point 106 metres west of the centreline of Tag Lane to the head of the cul de sac between 2pm and 11.45pm.
  • Beech Grove, Ashton – Between its junction with Waterloo Road and its junction with Tulketh Avenue, from 3pm to 9pm, the diversion route is via Waterloo Road, Victoria Parade, Tulketh Avenue and vice versa.
  • Geoffrey Street, Ribbleton – From its junction with Cemetery Road for a distance of 43 metres in a south easterly direction, between 7am and 10.30pm, the diversion route is via Cemetery Road, Skeffington Road, New Hall Lane and vice versa.
  • Hammond Street – From its junction with Plungington Road for a distance of 61 metres in a westerly direction, between 11am and 7pm.
  • Park Drive, Lea – fully closed from 1pm to 10.30pm.
  • Victoria Park Avenue, Lea – fully closed from 1pm to 10.30pm.

Sunday 7 May road closures:

  • Powis Road, Ashton – Between its junction with Ashton Close and its junction with Tulketh Road from 11am to 3pm, the diversion route is via Tulketh Road, Egerton Road, Pedder’s Lane, Watery Lane in that direction only (b) Powis Road, Watery Lane, Water Lane, Tulketh Road in that direction only. 
  • Northway, Fulwood – Between its junction with Hurstway and its  junction with Edenway from 11am to 3pm, the diversion route is via Northway, Janice Drive, Brookside Road, Edenway and vice versa.
  • Samuel Street, Fishwick – From its junction with Fishwick Parade for a distance of 50 metres in a south-easterly direction between 10am and 5pm, the diversion route is via Fishwick Parade, Arnham Road, Fishwick View and Samuel Street and vice versa. 
  • Marston Moor, Fulwood – From a point 70 metres west of the centre line of Lansdown Hill from noon to 8pm.
  • Marston Close, Fulwood – fully closed from noon to 8pm.
  • Thirlmere Road – between its junction with Brant Road and its junction with Bowness Road from noon until 5pm, the diversion route is via Brant Road, Mardale Road and Bowness Road and vice versa.

Monday 8 May road closures:

  • Bank Parade – From the centre line of its junction with Avenham Terrace for a distance of 69 metres in a westerly direction, between noon until 10.30pm.
  • Lynwood Avenue, Grimsargh – Between its junction with Whittingham Lane and its junction with Yew Tree Avenue, the diversion route is via Yew Tree Avenue, Preston Road, Whittingham Lane and vice versa.
  • Nave Close, Grimsargh – fully closed from 11am to 5pm.

The council says ‘the above closures are necessary to prevent obstruction of the street at the time of public rejoicing’.
