A local distillery’s plans to form a new gin bar in Penwortham will be discussed by South Ribble Borough Council this week.
The award-winning No.1 Fairham Gin proposes for a change of use of a former office unit to a drinking establishment (Sui Generis) in Liverpool Road.
The proposed development is part of the former Booths supermarket, which was refurbished and sub-divided to form a restaurant, bar and retail shop.
If plans are approved, the gin bar would sit between the 1260 Craft and Crust and the Gin Jar Ale.

No external works are proposed to the bar although an outside seating area would be formed on the forecourt to the front.
Environmental Health have requested a number of conditions to help protect nearby residents. Some of the conditions relate to noise levels, external lighting and time of deliveries.
The health agency also requests that the outside area and beer garden should not be used between the hours of 8pm and 10pm on any day.

A report addressed to South Ribble Borough Council said: “It is considered that the proposed change of use of this unit from retail to a sui generis Drinking Establishment will not unduly impact on the residential amenity of neighbouring residents to the extent as to warrant a refusal of planning permission.
“It is within the existing District Centre of Penwortham, close to a busy crossroads junction and between a restaurant and a drinking establishment.”
The planning statement prepared by agents Anyon Architectural & Planning Ltd said: “The Change of Use proposal is for a new high class drinking establishment to join the already established fashionable bars, restaurants, sophisticated venues and independent shops along Liverpool Road, High Street and the Penwortham District Centre.”
No objections have been received and the application is recommended for approval subject to the imposition of conditions.
