Geek Retreat Preston has closed its doors, just eight months after opening in the city centre.
The popular spot in Friargate was part of a nationwide geek culture retail chain.
A post on Geek Retreat Preston’s Facebook page today (Thursday 17 November) says: “We’re very sorry to announce that due to the sustained and severe anti-social behaviour experienced at the Preston Geek Retreat store over recent months, we feel that it is impossible to ensure the safety of employees and customers.
“We have therefore taken the difficult decision to close this store until we can reopen in the future, in a safer location.
“We would like to thank every one of you for your kindness, support and great times. Stay safe and we’ll be in touch soon.”
The announcement follows an incident on Saturday (12 November), where the store suffered significant damage in what was described as a ‘prolonged assault’.
Reacting to the news, a spokesperson for Preston BID said: “We have reached out to the management of Geek Retreat expressing our sadness at their decision to close, and offering any support required.
“This is an issue which we are aware of with many businesses reporting crime and antisocial behaviour. On behalf of city centre businesses, we have requested that the Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary meet with city centre businesses to address their concerns, and agree a proactive way forward.
“Overall, Preston remains a safe place to do business, work and visit. But It is important that agencies with a responsibility for the safety of the city centre, continue to understand the issues city centre traders face, and work with them, us, and other partners, to ensure that they have a fair opportunity to trade successfully and contribute to the overall vibrancy of the city centre.”

Geek Retreat Preston Facebook followers shared their sadness at the news of the store closing.
Debi Ann said: “Absolutely gutted! We love coming in when we come up to see our son. We loved it in there as you guys are all so friendly and welcoming. Totally understand your decision but I hate that you’ve been forced to closed due to idiotic and pathetic children.”
Tom Morris added: “This is a shame, great place to go with the kids and great bunch of people who work there. I really hope you find a new location soon that’s more suitable and away from all this drama.”
Lancashire Police have been contacted for comment.
