Lancashire Encounter Festival road closures in Preston city centre

There will be road closures for the Lancashire Encounter Festival this weekend.

The closures will allow for several different events to take place including the torchlight procession on Saturday evening.

Closures include:

  • The full length of Orchard Street and Market Street between its junction with Orchard Street and its junction with Earl Street on Saturday 17 September 2022 for an Art installation
  • Winckley Square (southern length only) to support a garden party in Winckley Square on Sunday 18 September 2022
  • Roads to facilitate the Lancashire Encounter procession on Saturday 17 September 2022.

The diversion routes for the closures will be via:

  • Earl Street
  • Lancaster Road
  • Church Street
  • Ring Way in that direction only.

There are several road closures for the torchlight procession which include (all closures are 6.30pm-10pm unless otherwise stated)

  • Moor Park Avenue. The full length between 12noon to 10pm on Saturday, 17 September 2022.
  • Deepdale Road. It’s full length.
  • Sir Tom Finney Way. From its junction with Deepdale Road to its junction with Blackpool Road.
  • Ribbleton Lane. From its junction with Deepdale Road to its junction with Ring Way.
  • Church Street. It’s full length.
  • Ring Way. At its junction with Church Street.
  • Birley Street. From its junction with Church Street to its junction with Jacson Street.
  • Lancaster Road. From its junction with Church Street to its junction with Ring Way.
  • Lord Street. It’s full length.
  • Tithebarn Street. It’s full length.
  • Ormskirk Road. It’s full length.

The diversion routes include:

  • Moor Park Avenue diversions – Ribbleton Lane, Ribbleton Avenue, Blackpool Road, Garstang Road, North Road, Ring Way and vice versa.
  • Deepdale Road diversions – New Hall Lane, Blackpool Road, Garstang Road, North Road, Ring Way and vice versa.

One way traffic restrictions will also be suspended on the following roads:

  • St. Stephen’s Road
  • Carrol Street
  • Church Row
  • Derby Street
  • Hammond’s Row
  • Manchester Road
  • Avenham Street
  • Glover’s Court.
