Preston matron to skydive for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ Children’s Appeal

A Preston matron will travel to Lancaster Airfield this August to leap 10,000ft from a plane as part of a hospital charity fundraiser.

On Saturday, 27 August, Nicola Entwistle, Matron for Children and Young People at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will jump from a plane travelling at around 120 mph to make her freefall tandem parachute jump.

Nicola is skydiving to raise funds for the Children’s Appeal, and her place on the plane is one of 10 the team has reserved to encourage others to join her.

Appeal fundraiser Lucy Clark said: “We are looking for thrill-seeking fundraisers on this occasion – people who have always wondered what it’s like to jump from an aeroplane!

“Maybe it’s down on your bucket list or something saved to mark a special birthday.

“If it’s something you fancy, get in touch because places are free, providing you’re able to reach a minimum sponsorship target of £395.

“I dare you to help our Children’s Appeal!”

The appeal is raising £1 million for a shopping list of items to improve patient and family experience across children’s services at the Royal Preston Hospital, Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, Leyland’s Broadoaks Child Development Centre and other facilities managed by the trust.

Nicola said: “I have the honour every day of experiencing the difference the charity team’s appeal is making to children and their families.

“It helps us as nurses go the extra mile and support us to do the ‘nice things’ that make a real difference and directly impact patient care.”
