A local theatre group last Saturday completed a sponsored walk at Preston Docks to raise funds for a 6-year-old boy with a neuromuscular disorder.
On Saturday, 11 June, from 11am to 4pm, Kidz 4 Kidz fundraisers walked Preston Docks to raise money for an all-terrain adaptable wheelchair for a boy named Alex, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 2 (SMA2) in 2017.
The fundraising continues with an auction night on 18 June at Lea Club on Blackpool Road, from 7.30pm, to help raise the £7,500 target, with the chair costing £14,500.

A Kidz 4 Kidz representative said: “Alex is such a friendly, confident little boy and has always coped well with his situation.
“Recently, Alex has started to notice his limitations. It caused him to start getting very upset that he couldn’t keep up with his friends in the playground.
“Because he isn’t as fast, he feels like he’s missing out and left behind.”

The overall cost includes accessories to enable the chair to be used by a child, and as Alex grows, it can be adapted to suit his height and build, meaning he can use the chair for the rest of his life.
Alex’s family have fought for equipment to assist Alex in the past, and they have raised £3,000.
Kidz 4 Kidz met with Alex and his parents to organise various fundraisers, including an 80s night, sponsored walk, auction night, Ultra Warrior, sale of limited edition prints by graphic designer DaveRob, and the Kidz 4 Kidz show night.

Proceeds from the events will fund Alex’s wheelchair.
The representative said: “Alex likes Minecraft, music and maths!
“He has picked a song he likes and singing in our next show along with the Kidz 4 Kidz cast and said he’s excited and nervous about it!”
