Nestled in the heart of Ingol is Preston secret environmental gem, the Dobcroft Nature Reserve.
Protected and secure, Dobcroft is a nature reserve in the centre of Preston, created as a safe haven for the rare and protected great crested newt.
Owned and maintained by the Intact Centre, the Dobcroft reserve is opening its gates to tours, school classes and groups of residents.

Based on Whitby Avenue, Intact is embarking on a plan to allow more people to visit the reserve, learn about some of the amazing plant and animal species and even get involved volunteering on site.
On Friday 19 November from 10am until 1pm, Intact is hosting a ‘Tour and Taster’ session for anyone to come, learn about and experience Dobcroft.
Natural heritage and Wellbeing Coordinator Ian Wright said: “As well as the open day we are happy to arrange tours throughout the year on our beautiful reserve.
“If you’re part of a photography group, a school class or residents association, get in contact and we’ll get a time sorted. Outdoor clothing and shoes/wellies are advised, it is Preston after all.
“The last 18 months have shown the importance of our precious green spaces and how enjoying them can really help your mental health.
“Dobcroft is lucky to have a team of incredible volunteers who help maintain and improve the site.”

Intact CEO Denise Hartley said: “We are always open to new people getting involved in the Dobcroft volunteering team. It’s a fantastic way to learn new skills, meet new people as well as get some fresh air and exercise in the process.
“If you’re looking to get back into work or you’re interested in working in the environmental and ecology sectors then joining our land management team is a great start and looks fantastic on your CV.”
