Community groups in Preston, Penwortham, Leyland and Broughton chosen for potential Co-op funding

Good causes in Preston, Penwortham, Leyland and Broughton may receive cash from a Co-op community fund.

Every year, each Co-op store and Funeral Care home nominates three local community groups to receive cash donations from the Local Community Fund.

Co-op members can choose which local cause to support from the following charities and community groups.

In Preston, Let’s Grow Preston, PeerTalk, Pool House Under Fives Nursery, Preston’s Promise, Read Easy Preston and The JJ Effect Youth Club.

In Penwortham, Lostock Hall and Bamber Bridge Tippy Toes Baby Bank, Penwortham Boxing Club and Cruse Bereavement Care Lancashire.

In Leyland, Community Network and Outreach Service CIC, Leyland Sporting Memories Group and The Base Community Centre.

In Broughton, Catteral and Longridge, Garstang Memory Cafe, Garstang Community First Responders, Girlguiding Garstang Rural District, Longridge Community Arts, Barnacre Road PTFA and the 1st Longridge Scout Group.

Each time Co-op members purchase goods or services, they receive 2 per cent cashback, and the Co-op donates 2 per cent to the local community cause that the member has chosen.

Co-op said all of the new causes align with their community priorities of supporting fair access to food, improving mental health and wellbeing and supporting training initiatives for young people to develop new skills.

Since the introduction of the Co-op Local Community Fund in 2016, over 21,000 local community projects have been supported.
