Staff from Preston-based charity Recycling Lives cycled over 30 miles from HMP Lancaster Farms to HMP Wymott near Leyland to raise £956.

Initially, the challenge, organised by the charity’s housing and employability co-ordinator Lucy Bailey, was to support just Recycling Lives but she was then inspired to donate a quarter share – £239 – to Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

That donation was to thank staff at Rosemere Cancer Centre for looking after another colleague Ray Ward.
Ray, who mentors offenders in custody at HMP Lancaster Farms, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in January and has been attending Lancashire and South Cumbria’s regional specialist cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital for both chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Lucy said: “Ray’s an amazing character, an award-winning and much loved member of the team.
“He has worked at HMP Lancaster Farms for years and thinking about what he’s going through, I wanted to support the people caring for him as well as giving back to our charity after a tough year.”
