The science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) extravaganza is returning as a free one-day event on the Preston Campus on Saturday 23 October, subject to Government restrictions.

Aimed at inspiring children about the real-world applications of these fascinating subjects, the one-day spectacular will feature a packed programme of jaw-dropping live shows, eye-popping demonstrations and hands-on workshops led by some of today’s leading lights in the STEM fields.

Last year’s event was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the current Government restrictions mean the two primary school days are unable to take place in 2021.

To ensure the thousands of youngsters do not miss out on the annual slice of science fun, the University is running a Virtual Lancashire Science Festival. This will include a suite of virtual and pre-recorded activities for primary and high schools.

Dr Liz Granger, Lancashire Science Festival Director, said: “We’re absolutely delighted we can bring back our amazing free Festival to our Preston Campus for a one-day spectacular.

“We know the Lancashire Science Festival has become a staple in the diaries of thousands of families and young people, with previous events attracting around 20,000 per year, so we’re excited to see the return of the wide variety of demonstrations and interactive sessions that will bring science, technology, engineering and maths to life.

“We’re also really pleased we can bring a bit of the Lancashire Science Festival into classrooms across the North West. Covid-19 has sadly prevented the return of the two primary school days this year but the move online means more children than ever before can engage with this wonderful educational event.”
