Fulwood Central retail park is set to double in size just a year after opening, as plans for Phase Two of the shopping space are released.

The Fulwood retail park opened nearly a year ago with Aldi and B&M, and Costa and Burger King followed soon after.

The new expansion is set to include retail units, restaurants, a gym and crazy golf along with the development of a container park.

The container park will be built up of upcycled shipping containers that can be rented by small independent businesses.

The container units will be mostly used as office space and food and retail units, with over 70 shipping containers being re-developed.

In a report to the Preston City Council planning committee, site developers said: “The Container Park units will comprise painted storage containers, with glazed roofs and wooden panelling, which will also feature a courtyard area to eat, drink and socialise; this will provide a functional focal point for the site.

“This area of the site is envisaged to be an attractive meeting place, with opportunities for new, small and independent food, beverage and retail units to establish themselves, which is complementary to the other uses proposed across the site.”

The site is also designed to allow pedestrians easy access across the site, as well as being linked to the Guild Wheel, which will run along the east of the development site.

“The proposed development is for a new mixed-use development which is the second phase of Fulwood Central,” the report to the planning committee added.

“The development will offer a mixture of different services to complement the surrounding uses.

“The two existing accesses utilised by the existing storage and distribution warehouse are to be adapted and improved to enhance accessibility and permeability across the site in its entirety; including phase one of the development.”

The site developers have stated that for reasons stated in the proposal, the site ‘will not result in significant effects on the environment’.

The site developer agent PWA Planning has been contacted for comment.
