This year’s Easter Egg Rolling event should have been taking place in Avenham Park with a full line-up of activities and entertainment – however, with the UK in lockdown due to coronavirus, the popular tradition has sadly been cancelled for 2020.
Now local company Make Do Drink has come to the rescue of disappointed Prestonians and created the Big Indoor Egg Roll.
Make Do Drink owners, Helen Brady and Nicola Darwen, say they want to encourage people to enjoy some Easter fun from the safety of their own homes.
They will be providing activities including colouring sheets and egg hunt clues – plus tips on how to set up the perfect indoor egg roll, even if you don’t have stairs.
Helen said: ‘The current circumstances we find ourselves in are unprecedented, scary and at times a little overwhelming, so we’re inviting as many people as possible to take some time away from the crisis and join us in just an ounce of silliness this Easter weekend.
“We urge everyone to continue doing everything they can to help protect key workers on the frontline, our NHS teams, shopkeepers, cleaners, teachers and so many more. Stay Home and Stay Safe.”
Councillor Matthew Brown, Leader at Preston City Council, said: “Let’s keep the 150 year Preston tradition of Egg Rolling alive by joining in with the Big Indoor Egg Rolling event in our own homes. I will be rolling my favourite Easter egg down the stairs and I would like to see online many other people joining in too.
“Whatever Easter activities you get up to this weekend let’s make Preston proud by staying home and staying safe whilst doing our best to embrace the Easter spirit.”
The Big Indoor Egg Roll will take place this Easter Monday (13 April).
To take part, join the Big Indoor Egg Roll Facebook event or visit Make Do Drink on Twitter or Instagram, and use the hashtag #BigIndoorEggRoll.
