Roads closed, fields flooded and a cancelled concert – Storm Ciara takes its toll on Preston

Preston has battened down the hatches as Storm Ciara battered the region.

Five flood warnings are currently in place across Preston. They are:

  • Salmesbury, by the Tickled Trout
  • Higher Walton Road and Higher Walton Mills
  • Brockholes and Brockholes Quarry
  • Fishwick Bottoms to the railway bridge
  • Avenham and Miller Parks

The River Ribble has risen to its highest ever level with widespread flooding in the surrounding areas.

By 1pm Avenham and Miller Parks were submerged after the river burst its banks.

One cyclist, who ignored flood warnings, had to be rescued from the band stand.

Indie band Blossoms cancelled their ‘Foolish Loving Places’ launch gig at Blitz nightclub due to adverse weather conditions.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service closed Leyland Road at Middleforth as flood water continued to rise.

The M6 slip road was closed in both directions at Salmesbury due to flooding causing delays and diversions on the motorway.
