Sheep rescued by fire crews off Preston New Road as flood water rises

Emergency services were called into action on Saturday afternoon to rescue livestock from rising floodwater.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Penwortham and Bamber Bridge to Preston New Road in Samlesbury.

Rising water levels on the River Ribble saw 170 sheep become marooned on an island with the river rising fast.

Firefighters spent around two hours from just before 4pm helping the farmer at the scene.

Two swift water rescue technicians assisted the farmer in moving the sheep to higher ground and part of the road needed to be closed during the rescue.
