A swathe of Preston is to see extensive police patrols throughout Monday evening.

Preston Police have issued a stop and search order – a Section 60 – covering Fishwick, St Matthews and parts of Deepdale and Ribbleton.

It comes after a 14-year-old boy was stabbed by three men in Samuel Street, Fishwick, during Sunday night.

The area, shown in yellow below, allows police to stop people or vehicles without suspicion.

Police can only use the Section 60 when the think there’s a risk that violence could take place.

A spokesman for the police said: “This should not overly concern people. It’s not about targeting people, it is about making sure we do all we can to keep people safe.”

The stop and search zone is in order from 6pm on Monday (11 March) until 6am on Tuesday (12 March).

It comes after two recent stabbings in Preston, with a 17-year-old boy stabbed in the buttock in Ribbleton and a 17-year-old girl stabbed in the back in Fulwood.
