A Deepdale resident has started a petition to prevent the expansion of a local chicken factory and has called for it to be moved out of the area entirely.

Gafoor Pure Halal has been processing chicken meat since 2005 in Fletcher Road, Deepdale.

Roxanne Carter says she has started the petition on change.org due to the odour she says comes from the factory and affects the surrounding area.

Plans have recently been lodged with Preston City Council for a two-storey extension to the side and rear of an existing single-storey extension.

The petition reads: “Preston chicken factory is having a huge effect on local businesses and residents in the Deepdale and Ribbleton area of Preston. The odour is unbearable causing residents unable to allow fresh air in to the property’s and local businesses having customers complain.

“Depending on the weather conditions depends on the scale of odour in summer, when there is heat it is the most repulsive smell.

“There are currently planning permission to extend the factory.”

The petition is in place call on Preston City Council to stop the extension and ask Gafoor to move the plant out of a residential area.

The petition continues: “Let’s take action and put a stop to any further planning and get it moved out of central Preston.”

More than 1000 people have now signed up to the petition.

Plans from Gafoor in November stated the extension was needed to help limit deliveries to the site, and this may also decrease odours and noise from the factory.
