Police have issued an appeal to trace a woman and her dog after an attack in Clayton Brook.

A King Charles Spaniel was being walked along Great Green Lane, near Clayton Brook primary school.

During the incident on Tuesday (6 February), at around 4.30pm, another woman was walking a pit bull cross type dog on the opposite side of the road. The dog was not on the lead.

South Ribble Police said the dog bounded across the road and proceeded to savagely attack the spaniel.

The victim’s dog needed surgery following the attack and the woman received an injury to her left arm.

She was rescued by a passing motorist intervening.
