We’ve been for a sneak preview of progress on the Preston Markets development, as the scheduled date for completion of the £4million project draws closer.
AdvertisementFollowing discussions with Preston City Council, it was been agreed that market traders will now move into the facility in early 2018.
A new opening date has been set of Monday 12 February.
This will enable traders in the current market to spend a final Christmas in the current building.

The development was originally due to open in early December and Conlon Construction say they are still on track with the construction programme.
One of the trickier aspects of the building construction work has been working within the confines of grade-II listed outdoor market structure and canopy which was recently refurbished.
The glazed surround and paved floor of the new market will now take the market building to the next level, providing a modern environment for traders and shoppers in Preston.
Cabinet member for environment councillor Robert Boswell said: “The Market Hall, which is due for completion early December, is almost complete. With the installation of stall partitions, and glass walling and tiling almost finished, you get a real sense of what a wonderful trading and shopping space this will become.
“We now look forward to the opening of the Market Hall in February with great excitement.”

Sam Livesey, Chairman of the Preston Market Traders Association, said: “After several years of planning and hard work the traders are excited that the new Market Hall will be opening on 12th February. The building is already looking great and we can’t wait to make the move.
“In the meantime we look forward to serving our loyal customers from our current home over the Christmas period.”
The pictures below show progress inside the market area with many of the stalls now in place and ready to be fitted out.
