Man suffers burns after basement flat fire near university

A man suffered burns to his arms after a fire in a basement flat this morning (November 30).

The incident happened at around 11.01am in Victoria Street near UCLan in the city centre.

Crews from Preston, Leyland and Penwortham attended the scene while the man was attended to by ambulance paramedics.

A hosereel jet was used to extinguish the fire. The cause has yet to be established.

A statement from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said: “Fire in a basement flat on Victoria St in Preston at 11.01 this morning. Man sustained burns to his arms, attended to by ambulance paramedics. 2 @PrestonFire @Leyland_Fire and Penwortham responded to the 999 call.

“Hosereel jet to extinguish the fire, cause to be established.”
