Preston leisure centres now have a new owner

Preston’s leisure centres are now being operated by a new company – as the transfer from Preston City Council is complete.

Fulwood and West View Leisure Centres are part of the Better leisure group part of Greenwich Leisure Limited.

The social enterprise has taken on the buildings and operation of sport and leisure centres from the city council in a multi-million pound deal.

Terms of the deal include hundreds of thousands of pounds being invested into improving facilities at the leisure centres in the next year or two.

Here’s some important information you need to know about the Better leisure:

Are the opening hours the same?

Yes, both swimming pools and gyms are maintained

Can I use my membership?

Existing memberships are carried over for use at the Better leisure centres until the date of expiry, then you will need to buy a new one.

What’s the phone number?

There’s a new phone number for each leisure centre. Fulwood is 01772428930 and West View is 01772428860.

What about booking fitness classes, sports courts or pitches?

You need to re-register by visiting the leisure centre and being issued with a replacement swipe card. Once you have a new swipe card you can access the GLL online portal to book.

Is there a website?

Each leisure centre now has a dedicated web site on the GLL site. Fulwood is here and West View is here.

How much is a membership?

A full adult membership for gym, swim, fitness classes and all access is £56.95 per month and can be used anywhere in the UK at other Better leisure centres.

For a teenager membership, aged 16 to 18, it is £22 per month.

A child membership is £17 per month, a pensioner membership is £19.95. Student and concessionary memberships are also available.

A membership which is just for the Preston area is £32 per month for adults covering gym, swim and fitness classes.

Can I still pay on the day?

Short-term passes and one-off gym or swim is available.
