The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for strong winds across Lancashire this week.
AdvertisementWinds of 70-80mph have been forecast on Thursday with heavy rain also likely to sweep the region.
The warning is in place from 6am until 6pm on Thursday and the warning suggests that the winds are associated with storm Doris.
The Met Office chief forecaster said: “A developing area of low pressure is expected to move across the UK on Thursday.

“The exact timing and track of this system remain uncertain but there is potential for a short-lived core of very strong winds to develop. Whilst some disruption is expected outside of this stronger swathe of winds, the amber area looks most likely to see more significant disruption.”
The warning states that damage to structures and a disruption to travel networks is likely. The public should also be aware of the danger of injury from flying debris.
There is a further possibility of snow but this is currently only expected to affect Cumbria.
