Police have closed off a road in Plungington following an incident.

Barlow Street, close to the Plungington Community Centre and off Brook Street, has been taped off. Four police vehicles are in attendance.

Inspector Phil Broughton of Lancashire Police confirmed they had been called by members of the public at 8.30am on New Year’s Day (Sunday 1 January).

An ambulance has also been seen in the road, which is closed. Police have now extended the cordon from Brook Street to Plungington Road, and from Aqueduct Street to Eldon Street.

Inspector Broughton said at this stage there were no further details and the road was to be closed while they investigated.

An eyewitness said she saw a person being taken into the ambulance on a stretcher.

The community centre is not closed or sealed off at this time, only the road near it.
