The 77-year-old man was left with a fractured shoulder, fractured eye socket and broken neck.

The driver of an Audi A3, a 24-year-old man from Ingol, has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report a collision.

The incident took place in Ribbleton Lane, at the junction with Skeffington Road, around 3.45pm on Wednesday (14 December).

Sergeant Tracey Ward, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This was a nasty collision which left an elderly pedestrian with serious injuries.
