Brian Carroll who died in Ribby Hall crash which closed the road for around six hours
A driver who died in a crash near Preston has been named as the man who ran pubs in Kirkham and Newton.
Pensioner Brian Carroll died in the crash near the Ribby Hall roundabout on Monday morning.
The 78-year-old’s family paid tribute to him.
In a statement released via Lancashire Police they said: “The family of Brian Carroll would like to express their grief at the loss of a loving father and grandfather who died in a road traffic collision on Blackpool Road, Kirkham yesterday.
“Brian was well known locally as he was the previous landlord of both ‘The Top House’ in Kirkham and ‘The Highgate’ in Newton.
Brian was driving a black Kia Picanto when it collided with a silver Honda Civic on the A583 Blackpool Road around 9.40am on Monday (20 June).
The road was closed by police for six hours while they investigated the crash. Mr Carroll was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, a 75 year old man, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and has since been discharged.
PS 3105 Adam Dawson of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts remain with Brian’s family at this time. An investigation to establish how this collision came to occur is underway and there has been a fantastic response from the public as a result of yesterday’s appeal for witnesses.
“Can I urge anyone with information who has not been in contact to please call the enquiry team on 101 quoting log 334 of the 20th June 2016.”
