A pensioner has died during a car crash on the outskirts of Preston.

Police closed the A583 Blackpool Road for a number of hours near the Ribby Hall roundabout on Monday (20 June).

Around 9.40am a silver Honda Civic and a black Kia Picanto collided.

The driver of the Kia, a 78-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have now released a tribute to him.

The road was closed for six hours while police investigated.

A 75-year-old man, the driver of the Honda, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

PS Adam Dawson of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident where a man has sadly lost his life and my thoughts remain with his loved ones at this time.

“An investigation to establish exactly how this collision came to occur is already underway and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us.”
