The open access rail operator has made Preston its West Coast Mainline base
The first train between Preston and London for the new Lumo rail will run on the late May Bank Holiday.
Lumo has confirmed Monday 25 May is the official launch date for its new lost-cost service between Stirling and London Euston.
The first London service from Preston will be 12.05pm and the first service to Stirling will be 7.07pm
Preston is the West Coast mainline headquarters for the open access rail firm who have taken an office in the city and created around 100 jobs.
Managing director of First Rail Open Access, Stuart Jones, said: “This is a very exciting moment in our journey to launching a pioneering new service for the West Coast. Customers can look forward to simple, low-cost fares with an excellent experience on our services between Scotland, the North West of England and London.
“I’m very proud that we’re already forging some meaningful connections in the communities on the route.”
Lumo has indicated they will be supporting community events in the cities and towns they call at – with Preston Caribbean Carnival dancers performing at their Preston launch and Stirling Pride receiving support.
Refurbished trains are to run on the West Coast after being revamped by Alstom who have a long history with Preston.

Services Director UK and Ireland at Alstom, Steve Harvey, said: Alstom is proud to help Lumo launch its new West Coast service through our refurbishment programme of their Class 222 fleet. Our focus remains on providing refreshed trains that are reliable, welcoming and ready to serve passengers from day one.
“Seeing Lumo announce its arrival through such positive community partnerships reflects the values we share around inclusion, accessibility and putting customers first.”
Lumo is planning to compete with Avanti West Coast and offering tickets for £23.90 between Preston to London and Preston to Stirling for £14.90. Four daily return services will be offered between Stirling and Euston, with a fifth return service just between Preston and London.
Other stops on the route will be Milton Keynes, Nuneaton, Crewe, Carlisle, Lockerbie, Motherwell, Whifflet (Coatbridge), Greenfauls (Cumbernauld) and Larbert.
