Preston joined national commemorations for VE Day with a beacon lighting to mark 80 years since the end of fighting in Europe.
Military veterans and civic leaders, and the public, gathered on the Flag Market during Thursday 8 May evening.
Mayor of Preston councillor Phil Crowe led a civic service in the shadow of a beacon on the Harris steps following a parade from the city’s Market Hall by veterans and cadets to the Flag Market.

Speeches were made by the city’s Armed Forces champion councillor Mel Close as well as by the Mayor and by veterans.
The service concluded with the beacon lighting as it blazed down to remember the sacrifice made by Prestonians in the Second World War.
Michael Porter and Paul Yates were there to snap some pictures as veterans service was marked and the city paused to pay its respects.
