The police are asking the public to stay away from Rivington after two explosive devices were found.

Officers were called after two ‘grenade type devices’ were found at the side of Rivington reservoir just before 8am today (19 April).

A cordon is in place and police are asking the public to stay away from the area. Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams are on their way to the scene.

A spokesperson for police said: “We just wanted to let you know that we are currently an incident at Rivington after a member of the public found what are suspected to be two grenade type devices.

“There is a cordon in place at the moment and we would ask you to stay away from the area for now while we deal with the situation. We will update you further when we can.

“Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.”

Shortly before 12noon on Saturday the police said the cordon had now been lifted.
