Concerns have been raised about a recent spate of fires across Fulwood.

Sharoe Green city councillor Maxwell Green told Blog Preston he had been contacted by residents across the northern part of the city about a number of fires in the open.

He said: “Whilst I’ve been out and about speaking with residents I had the issue raised with me there had been some fires started in the area lately.

“I’ve been reporting these to the police and I encourage others to do so too.

“People I’ve spoken to have reported seeing two people leaving the fire sites each time.

“With weather warming up and getting dry too, there is a concern that this can have a bigger issue with fires and potential for them to get out of control. Stay vigilant and report any concerns to the police, and I hope those lighting the fires will not carry on.”

Lancashire Fire and Rescue service confirmed they had been called to a fire in Caxton Road, Fulwood, to a building on the industrial estate around 9.11pm on Sunday (27 April). The fire was already out on arrival.

A second fire at 6.47pm on Thursday 24 April saw crews called to land close to Flintoff Way on the border of Fulwood and Deepdale.

Police said they had also been called to a fire at Flintoff Way near to Sainsbury’s to reports of tyres and rubbish on fire – but they said this was listed as being on Sunday (27 April). It’s not clear whether there were two fires at Flintoff Way or one.

Cllr Green told Blog Preston he had received further reports of fires in recent days around Tower Lane and Barnacre Close – but neither police nor the fire service had details of these.

Anyone concerned about deliberate fires should contact police on 101 and if you do see a fire you should call the fire service on 999 immediately.
